Different Pay Rates

We are a civil & heavy construction company so it is common for an employee to work at the same location but doing 2 different jobs at different rates, for example hauling stone in the morning then being a laborer in the afternoon. This changes daily depending on where we need them. We selected a regular class set for each employee but is there a way to change pay class by day?

Different Pay Rates

I’m glad to see you in the Community, TerraWorksInc.

Let me assist in setting up a different pay rate for your employee. We can set a rule to define what an employee works a certain number of hours, during certain hours, and/or on certain days.

When using the feature mentioned above, one or more pay rates can be applied to it. Also, note the following information:

  • Only account administrators can set up overtime pay rates.
  • A "setting" is the name of a set of overtime rules. One or more rules can be applied to a setting.
  • A "rule" defines what the pay rate will be after a team member works a certain number of hours, during certain hours, and/or on certain days. One or more pay rates can be applied to a rule.
  • Each team member can be assigned to only one setting.
  • If a timesheet has already had a rule applied to it, another rule cannot be applied to that time. So, if there are overlapping/conflicting rules, only one rule will be applied.
  •

We’ll have to go to the Company Settings to perform this task. Follow the steps I shared below:

  1. In QuickBooks Time, tap the Company Settings menu on the left panel and choose Payroll & Overtime.
  2. Navigate to the Overtime tab and click the Manage Pay Rates button to open the Pay Rate Engine window.
  3. Press the Add Setting button and enter a description in the Setting Name field.
  4. Then assign your team members and choose any of the following:
**To assign it to all team members, select DEFAULT SETTING.
**To assign it to individual groups and/or team members: Select No team members assigned, make your selection(s), and select OK.
  5. Next, click Add to display the Pay Rate Engine window.
  6. Press the Add Rule button and select a type that applies to your employee’s setup: Day, Week, Pay Period, Holiday, Time of Day, and Consecutive Days.
  7. Enter the appropriate settings for the rule selected.
  8. Pick whether the rule is a Rate multiplier  (e.g., base pay x 1.5 /hr) or a Fixed-rate (e.g., base pay + $2 /hr).
  9. Click the Save button to keep the changes.
