Since Quickbooks made the decision to end the payroll service May 31st unless I upgrade. And... because it is too costly for a small business to pay annual subscription, plus payroll, plus online timer service (previously for 25+ year have used QB Pro Timer, for free). I have decided to end it now before I start the 2nd quarter. My question is:
Will all my historical employee payroll information be deleted when I end the service? I am not worried about filing forms, I just want to be able to print historical payroll reports, etc.
Hi, @protimer. It's sad to see you go, but we respect your decision to cancel your subscription with us.
Regarding your concern about accessing your payroll information after ending the service, it depends on the subscription you have.
If you're using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Payroll Assisted, you can still access copies of your payroll tax returns online through the Canceled Client Payroll Tax Center for 12 months from the date of cancellation. Also, you'll not receive paper copies of these returns.
You can follow these steps to access your return information:
If you can't find the form in the Payroll Tax Center, or you no longer have your Payroll PIN and EIN info, you can request paper copies of your returns by filling out this form: Tax Copy Request Form.
On the other hand, if you're using QBDT Payroll Enhanced, Standard, or Basic, you'll still have access to your payroll data after canceling. However, you won't be able to recreate any tax forms. Therefore, ensure to save a copy of all tax forms you created or e-filed.

Thank you for the detailed response however, I am not concerned about tax reports. What I am really looking to know is about pay history for employees. Right now if I click on an employee I can see every check detail for the past X# of years. I can create a payroll summary for any time period I want. Will I lose that data?
Sorry, Evidently I have two usernames?
Hello, @moolyme.
I'm here to provide you with valuable information on what happens to your data in case you decide to cancel your QuickBooks Desktop Payroll subscription.
Even if your QuickBooks Desktop subscription is inactive, you still own and have access to your data. In addition, View-only access remains for 1 year after your subscription ends. During that time, you won’t be able to edit your data with your inactive license.
Additionally, I'll include this article that explains the Other restrictions while you work in View-only mode: use view-only mode in QuickBooks Desktop
In case you change your mind and want to renew your payroll subscription, you can check out this article for more guidance: Reactivate your QuickBooks Payroll subscription
You can always reply below if you have further questions about ending your payroll service, and we'll respond to you as soon as possible.
You can purchase QB Desktop Enterprise Gold to access your historical data as a workaround and request a refund within 60 days. Another simpler option, we can ask a partner to lend you QB Desktop Enterprise Gold and use it for a short period of time. You don't need to bother asking for a refund.
who am I here?
I am so frustrated with QB I could pull my hair out. After all this hype they re ending payroll service etc, etc, trying the new Desktop version to find I could not use the timer. I disconnected my computer with payroll from the internet (because I don't want QB to have ANY ACCESS) and I created a spreadsheet to calculate payroll and gave all future contact with QB the heave hoe.
Than Friday, I get an email informing me that my payroll subscription expires in July and will renew automatically. WHAT??? I thought the axed on May 31st. So per instructions if I don't want it to renew I need to update my credit card info. I go online and it won't let me delete my credit card.
Did they shut it down for QB 2021 Pro or are they just going to constantly harass me?

Hey there, @moolyme.
Thanks for reaching back out on this thread.
If none of the steps from my colleague worked and you're unable to change the information yourself, I recommend contacting our Customer Support Team for further assistance. Here's how:
Please let us know how the call goes. I'm only a post away if you need me. Take care!
Login to CAMPS and find your license code there. Then change your payment method to ensure they can't charge you an auto-renewal fee next month.
