I have one employee with a bad file QB is almost doubling his federal withholding, firstly yes I checked everything over and over and so did quickbooks customer service, three hours wasted even with an 2nd tier tech expect, they could not figure it out , so they told me to manual figure withholding weekly from IRS publication, it's not a catch up situation , there is no extra withholding, everything has been checked by multiple experts
It sounds like a bug I remember from long ago where the federal withholding item was sometimes included 2x on paychecks - doubling up the tax.
Could that be the case here? If you look at a transaction detail report for the paycheck, is the federal withholding item included twice?
The Rebuild function is known to fix that case for future paychecks. If you Rebuild the company (start at File | Utilities | Rebuild...) does that fix it for new paychecks?
One other thing you didn't mention is the pay period. If it is not correct, then withholding won't be either. For example, if you pay every other week, but the employee is set up for a weekly schedule, the tax will almost double.
It's only one employee; he stopped working Sept 2025 came back a month ago and the first second and third paycheck double the federal withholding , QB expert could not help me, there is no catchup , we checked his file online together QB expert and I . I've been in payroll for 38 years the only explanation is a glitch in QB system but The expert just wanted me to hang up and give up and use the Federal Online Guidelines for deductions , very unprofessional
I have tried to send this reply 2 times, he was a past employee who left Sept 2025, Came back to work April 1 2026, the federal withholding has been almost double from the first check , and two week after that , the QB expert could not figure it out , we checked everything together on a screen share , federal was not playing catch up, he is the only employee this is happened to, the very unprofessional answer from QB expert was go online to Federal Guildlines and overrode the quickbooks deduction every single week, they want to just ignore the problem
Did you try the Rebuild option as suggested to see if then it is correct on new paychecks?
My file is large I have to ask my network to o it over night
