Hi there, capellcpos.
You don't have to withhold FUTA, Social Security, and Medicare taxes as long as it meets the government criteria for exemptions. If you're unsure, contact a tax expert or your tax agency.
You can follow these steps to set your employee’s Federal or State Withholding as exempt.
- Go to Payroll, then Employees.
- Select your employee.
- Under Tax withholding, click Edit. If prompted, choose the applicable Federal W-4 form.
- In the Federal Withholding Filing Status dropdown, choose Exempt if it applies.
- In the State Withholding Filing Status dropdown, choose Exempt if it applies.
Under the Tax exemptions section, you can tick the FUTA and Social Security and Medicare. When you're done, click Save.
