Going from QB Desktop+ to Online and have questions about Payroll...

We are hoping to migrate from QBD+ to QBO soon but I'm stumped on the payroll part. We currently subscribe to payroll on the desktop for $800 annually, and I see that the Payroll Core is $22 a month plus $6 per employee?!?!

For our seasonal business but am I to understand with our 600 employees in the winter we would be paying close to $4000 a month with QBO Payroll Core?

You can unsubscribe in the off-season and re-subscribe to the payroll add-on whenever you need it to save costs.

Jules but we go from 650 employees to 12 in the off season so we still need payroll. Do we have to physically remove each guest to get the licensing down each year? Are we really going from $800 to $3800 for this need when we only need or for tax tables as we don’t really use the 1001 other functions.

You should stay with QB Desktop. You may consider to purchase QB Desktop 2024 Enterprise Gold for a single user = $1,750 (first year) via a partner and you will get a 20% perpetual discount on renewals. You don't need to worry about how many employees you need to manage every month.

Why would I just not stay with our Pro Plus doe multiple users for half that?

Cost of your QB Desktop Pro Plus for single user + Enhanced Payroll for 16-650 employees > QB Desktop Enterprise Gold for single user.

Yes, you are right that you can pay the amount of close to $4000 a month with QuickBooks Online Payroll Core since the QBO Payroll Core is $22 a month plus $6 per employee.

I agree also with 4 Gal to stay with QuickBooks Desktop since you have a lot of employees to manage and you can save up more money than choosing Online Payroll Core.
