How do I change a salaried employees salary in the middle of a pay period?

I have an employee whose salary will change in the middle of our 2 week pay period and I wanted to know how to pay her at her original rate before the change and then at the new rate within the same pay period.

How do I change a salaried employees salary in the middle of a pay period?

Hello, @cretiagil.

You can make changes to your employee's salary by updating your employee's pay types. Let me help you out.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Payroll and choose Employees.
  2. Choose the employee you'd like to make a salary update.
  3. Scroll down and look for Pay types.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Input the amount in the Salary field.
  6. Finally, click Save.

However, since QuickBooks will ask for an annual salary and has a different salary for the two weeks in the same pay period, you'll need to manually calculate how much you should put in your salary field. Let me share the formula to calculate. Here's how:

The salary amount for the first week + the amount for the second week then multiplied by the number of pay frequency, = enter the salary amount.

I'll also include this article in creating paychecks: Manually enter payroll paychecks in QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, you can check out this link to learn how you can create and run your payroll.

Let us know if you have further questions about managing your employee's pay types. We'll be right here to help you. Take care!
