How do I change the General Ledger account that payroll activity points to? I do not want to change banks, just the GL account. Thank you for your insight.

We do not need to change our payroll bank account, but we do want to change the General Ledger account that it's posting to. How do we do that?

We're glad to have you here in the Community, dryan2. You can change the account of your payroll expenses and liabilities directly in the Payroll settings. I'll provide the detailed process to keep you on the right track.

To begin with, please log in to your QuickBooks Online Payroll company. Then, proceed to these steps to make necessary changes to your payroll accounting preferences:

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top right corner.
  2. Choose Payroll settings, then scroll down to the Accounting tab and click the Pencil icon.
  3. Select the Pencil icon for each payroll transaction you want to update the chart of accounts mapping.
  4. Pick the account to use and click Save. If you're unsure which one to use, I recommend consulting with your accountant for guidance.
  5. Select Done.
