How do I correct the state QB keeps sending tax forms to sign for SC? I am in NC.

Thank you for bringing up the issue regarding receiving tax forms from South Carolina instead of North Carolina. I understand your concern and would like to clarify the reason for this discrepancy, @info1999

When setting up payroll in QuickBooks, it is essential to enter accurate details, including the work location and employees' addresses. QuickBooks generates tax forms and calculates taxes based on the employees' residence and work locations to ensure compliance with tax regulations.

If an employee has a different work location from the business location, it is crucial to reflect this information accurately in the payroll setup. This ensures that the correct tax forms are generated and the appropriate taxes are calculated for each state.

However, it is important to note that some states have reciprocity agreements, which means employers may be required to file and pay taxes for each state, even if the business and employees are in different locations. QuickBooks prompts you to enter the necessary details for each state to ensure compliance with these regulations.

If you do not need to send tax forms to South Carolina, you can mark the state as tax-exempt in your payroll settings. This will prevent the generation of tax forms for that particular state.

Once, you've chosen the correct options and set up your employees' information, everything will just have to flow correctly. Again, check out your state information through this article: Payroll Tax Compliance Links.
