How do I deactivate (turn off) Direct Deposit?

If you need to temporarily deactivate direct deposit for an employee, you can switch the employee’s payment method to a paper check when running payroll. Here's how:

1. Go to Payroll, then Employees.
2. Choose Run payroll.
3. Select the Employees row.
4. Under the employee's name, click the Pay Method ▼ dropdown to switch the pay method to Paper check.
5. Preview and submit your payroll.

If the Direct Deposit service is already canceled, I suggest contacting our Payroll Support Team for further assistance. You can connect with them by following the instructions below:

1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
2. Select Help (?).
3. Choose either tab to get started:
   • Assistant: Get quick, personalized answers. Select a suggested option, or type a question or topic you need help with. If you need further help, you can still Talk to a human.
   • Search: Search the QuickBooks Online knowledge base directly, or select Contact Us and choose a way to connect with us:
     • Start a chat with a support expert.
     • Get a callback from the next available expert.

Please note that QBO Plus, Essentials, and Simple Start have office hours from 6 AM to 6 PM PT on weekdays and from 6 AM to 3 PM PT on Saturdays. QBO Advanced is available anytime, any day.

I want to perminanently disable Direct Deposit on all my Desktop Accountant Payroll subscriptions.  

None of my clients are interested in the up coming changes that Intuit wants to impose by collecting all payroll taxes at the time of payroll processing.  Intuit Desktop and QBO Payroll systems are still unable to accurately calculate the Worker's Compensation in our state and Intuit does not file and take full responsibility for all payroll taxes in this state.  So we are going to process our payroll without Intuit going forward.  

Side Question - Why didn't Intuit break Desktop and QBO off into two different entities?  All the forced changes to Desktop are horrible from an Accounting and Auditing stand point especially with job costing businesses.  Being forced into Enterprise is one thing but taking over full control of payroll when you can't even properly calculate the taxes for the various state agencies and you are not willing to assume full responsibility.   Being forced to contact your support from foreign contries that likely get paid $2 per hour or less to try and advise or assist me in correcting your software's inadequicy's really makes me angry.  It makes me angry that I am paying more and wasting a lot more time on the phone or computer to get your support team to fix something I have been able to fix in less than 2 minutes for decades....  CRABBY CRABBY Bookkeeper who helped grow your brand for the past 25 years.

Since you'd like to fully disable the direct deposit feature, I recommend reaching out to QuickBooks Desktop Payroll support. They have the tools and expertise to cancel your direct deposit account effectively.

To do so, here's how:

1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) company.
2. Go to the Help button on the upper right corner, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help/Contact Us.
3. Choose Contact Us, enter a summary of your concern
4. Click Continue and sign in to your Intuit account.
5. An email containing a code will be sent to you. Once you receive it, enter the code and click Continue.
6. From there, you can choose to Chat with us or Have us call you.
