How do I remove state withholding and SUI locations?

It's great to see a new face here in the Community. I'd be more than happy to show you how to remove state withholdings and SUL locations. 

 

You can easily remove the state by inactivating it by going to the Payroll Settings. Before doing that, make sure that no active employees are currently assigned to the work location. Once confirmed, please follow the steps below: 

 

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Payroll Settings.
  2. Under Company and Account, click Work Locations.
  3. Select the exact state, then mark the Inactive checkbox.
  4. Hit Save.

I added a State where I was going to employ someone, but the employee did not join. Now I want to delete that state from the Payroll Settings page and i am unable to. Please advise.

I added a state because I was going to recruit an employee there. But the employee never joined so the State is not needed. I need to delete the State from the Payroll Settings. I don't see an option to do it. Please advise

Thanks for chiming in on this thread, @seranking. I'm here to ensure you'll get the assistance you need in removing a state in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

 

Users formerly had the option to disable or remove states to avoid multi-state charges. Currently, QBO is unable to carry out that function. However, you can get in touch with our customer service team. They have access to tools to remove the state on your behalf and prevent additional state fees moving forward.

 

To do that:

 

  1. Go to the Help icon and select the Search tab.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Provide a brief description of your concern and select Continue.
  4. Choose between Chat with us and Have us call you.

 

Furthermore, track employee and payroll expenses in QBO by running payroll reports. This way, you'll have an overview of your employees' contributions, deductions, and taxes.
