How do I TAG payroll expenses in a given week to a job TAG?

QuickBooks Online (QBO) allows you to organize your payroll expenses by class and projects, but not by tags, Evan16.

But first, could you clarify what you mean by job tag, since we can only track payroll expenses by class and add them to weekly timesheets, while tags can only be applied once billable time is converted to an invoice? Understanding this will help me provide an accurate solution, and any screenshots you can share would also be helpful.

In the meantime, you can allocate your payroll expenses by classes such as product lines or locations, and by projects, jobs, or customers as you create your employees’ paychecks or direct deposits; these breakdowns will appear on your Profit and Loss reports.

Here's how:

  1. Turn on and set up class tracking and project tracking (if needed) if you haven't already.
  2. Hover over My apps.
  3. Go to Payroll, then Employees.
  4. Select Run Payroll
  5. Create your paychecks as normal
  6. Choose Edit classes and projects.

  7. Select the class and project for each employee and each pay type used.
    • For salaried employees, enter the percentage spent on each class or project.
    • For hourly employees, enter the hours for each class or project.
    • For commission and other pay types, enter the dollar amount for each class or project.
  8. If needed, click Create to add more classes or projects to each employee’s pay type. Or choose Delete to remove them.
  9. When finished, hit Confirm
  10. Send your payroll as normal
