How should jury duty be set up?

Hi there, @LDO. In QuickBooks Online (QBO) Payroll, jury duty should be set up as its own pay type rather than as PTO. This way, you can track the time your employee spends on jury duty and ensure they're compensated accordingly.

  1. Navigate to the Payroll menu, then Employees.
  2. Choose an employee and scroll to the Additional pay types section.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Hit New Pay type under the Pay types dropdown.
  5. Complete other details.

If you’re using time sheets and payroll together, it’s a good idea to create a Jury Duty time-off code. This will serve as a placeholder for the pay type and help you track it separately.

Be sure that the code is properly synced with your payroll, as any unsynced time may incorrectly export as regular hours, requiring manual adjustments when running payroll.
