How to modify the pay date from Jan, 23 to Dec, 22 or create a journal entry

Hi all,

For closing 2022 year, my accountant said that the paycheque issue in the beginning of Jan, 2023 should have a Dec, 2022 date.

As it was automatically created, I cannot change this pay date, which makes sense to me.

I was thinking to create a general journal entry for that.

Is it the correct method ?

Thanks

How to modify the pay date from Jan, 23 to Dec, 22 or create a journal entry

Hi there, ChrisToGw.

I'm here to share some information about changing the pay period date in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

The option to change or edit the pay date of a paycheck isn't available in QBO. As a workaround, you can delete and recreate them.

Here's how to delete it:

  1. Go to Payroll, then Employees.
  2. Select the Paycheck list.
  3. Select the paycheck(s) you'd like to delete,  then select Delete.

Once done, you can now recreate the payroll with the correct pay periods.

1. Go to the Workers menu at the left pane, then select the Employees tab.
2. Click Run payroll on the upper right, then pick an employee.
3. Enter the necessary information.
4. Select Preview payroll, then Submit payroll.
5. Print the paychecks by clicking Print pay stubs, then Finish payroll.

If you're unable to delete or void the paycheck, you can contact our Customer Care Team. They can pull up your account securely and help with the change or deletion.

Just in case you missed processing payroll on the scheduled date, you may need to create a set of paychecks outside of a regular payroll run. For your future reference, you can read this article: Create unscheduled checks in Online Payroll.

I'll be right here to continue helping in case you have additional inquiries or require further assistance managing your check. Have a great day!
