How to stop Quickbooks payroll from charging for multistate payroll, when you only file in one state? Chat or messaging seems to no do any good.

Hi there, @mfdpaks.

If you don't need to file for other states, you can change or ensure that your employees are using the accurate work location. This way, the system will recognize that you're not filing taxes for the other states. If needed, you can update them by following these steps:

Here's how:

  1. Click Payroll from the sidebar menu, then go to the Employees tab.
  2. Choose the appropriate employee.
  3. Update the work location from the Employment section.
  4. Save the changes.

For more tips about multistate employment, you can open this article: Set up employees and payroll taxes in a new state.

If you're still getting charges for multistate payroll, I'd recommend reaching out to our Support Team. This way, a live representative can look into your account securely and review the charges you're getting.

On the other hand, you can get more tips about paying and filing your state or payroll tax forms from this article: Pay and file payroll taxes and forms in Online Payroll.

Let me know if you have any other follow-up questions about the charges you're getting. I'm just a post away to help. Have a good one!

Thank you for your response but the work location is listed correctly as Kansas. That is the only location.  She lives in Missouri.
