I have an employee that helps another business here in town as a consultant. Her time comes over from TIME as sales, It needs to be something else. Help?

When I approve her time in QB Time, it seems to come over as sales.  I want it to come over as a different service.  Right now I have to go in and edit each time entry for her.  How can I get it to bill as the consultant item I have setup?

I've got your back on managing timesheets in QuickBooks Online (QBO), hugh-cox.

Let's make sure to check the approved time and map properly the payroll items:

Here's how:

  1. Login to QuickBooks Time as an admin.
  2. Go to the QuickBooks Payroll tab in the upper right-hand corner.
  3. Click on Preferences, then go to Payroll Item Mapping.
  4. Lastly, select the Map Overrides tab and add your customers.

Here's an article to explain this process: Map QuickBooks Payroll Items to QuickBooks Time.

If you're a more visual learner, here's our YouTube video as well: Map Overrides.

I would recommend checking these resources for more information about reviewing and approving time within your QBO account.

Meanwhile, QBOP has several ready-made payroll reports that you can open to view your employee data and monitor your business finances. To give you a list of reports and an overview of what data they display, head to the Payroll reports page.

Keep me posted if you have any other concerns about your employee's time in QuickBooks Online. I’ll get back to answer them for you. Have a good one.

that's not quite what I'm asking but it is very interesting.  The rate she's billing at is fine.  It's the service that comes across through the synch.  Instead of coming across as "Tech Hours Worked" it just comes across as "Sales". So I have to edit it each month when I charge her time back to the customer.

Hi @hugh-cox,

I have some information about the sale item. Since you've mentioned that it was set up correctly, I suggest contacting our Payroll Support. This way, our payroll representative can check and update the payroll item.

Refer to this guide on how to reach out: Contact Payroll Support.
