Greetings, @userbill. Removing or Changing your state is my priority. Let me help you do this in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

 

You can run the Employee Details report, change the employee address, and then reassign your employee to a different state. To do this, go to the Company settings.

 

If you encounter the same scenario, contact our Payroll support representative. Our phone support will be able to view your payroll setting through a screen-sharing session. They can then confirm whether or not this is an ongoing problem.

I have no active employees in MA and haven't for over a year, which is why I don't understand why I keep getting messages, that my MA taxes are due.  How can I fix that?

Hello there, @userbill-roebelen. I'm here to help you remove that state from your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.

 

Thanks for getting back here. To start, let's verify the work location assigned to all of your employees by running the Employee Directory report. I'll guide you on how.

 

  1. Navigate to the Reports menu search for Employee Directory.
  2. Click it to open and select Customize.
  3. In the Employee field, choose All employees and pick All locations in the Work locations dropdown.
  4. Then, click Run report. 

 

Check their details. If you see an employee assigned to MA, you can refer to the steps provided by my colleague above to change the work location. 

 

If confirmed that there is no employee assigned to MA, I highly recommend reaching out to our Payroll support team to help you remove that state. They can pull up your account in a safe and use a specific tool to resolve this. Here's how:

 

  1. Log in to your QBO company and click the Help menu.
  2. From there, select the Search tab. 
  3. Select Contact Us and enter your concern.
  4. Next, click Let's talk.
  5. Then, select either Start a chat or Get a callback.
