I'm trying to reinstate QB online from 2021 so I can retrieve my annual w-2 form that wasn't sent to IRS.

I'm happy to assist you in retrieving your old QuickBooks Online (QBO) version and accessing your previous W-2 form, @dpatino.

The option to restore a backup of a company is only available in QBO Advanced. You can restore everything except budgets, inventory, and tax rates using expense accounts, and data backed up using the Local Backup feature.

Here are the steps to restore your data:

  1. Navigate to the Gear icon and choose Back up company.
  2. Look for the company you want to restore.
  3. From the Action dropdown, select Restore.
  4. Pick a date from the Date field.
  5. Choose the desired time from the Time dropdown.
  6. Click Next and follow the given instructions.
  7. Finally, hit Start Restore.

For viewing your tax forms, it depends on whether you e-filed the form or chose to print and file manually:

If you e-filed your tax form:

  1. Head to Taxes, then Payroll tax.
  2. Open the Filings tab.
  3. You can view your tax form in the ACTION NEEDED or COMING UP section. Alternatively, select Resources, then Archived forms and filings. You can also choose Preview to see forms not yet filed.

If you manually filed your tax form:

  1. Go to Taxes, then Payroll Tax.
  2. Open the Filings tab.
  3. Click on the File button next to the tax form you want to save or archive.
  4. Select the period, then hit Archive.
  5. View the form in the Archived forms and filings.

For more detailed information, visit this article: View your previously filed tax forms and payments.

It's important to note that the available period for archived payroll forms isn't unlimited and extends back for a year or two. If you need to archive a form from an earlier period, reach out to our support team of payroll specialists for assistance.
