How do calculate the dollar amount for dependents
Thanks for joining this thread, Happygirl2.
QuickBooks Payroll calculates taxes automatically using the percentage method. It also calculates your employee's payroll taxes with a year-to-date amount instead of per transaction.
Income taxes are determined by an employee's W-4 information, such as:
Pay frequency
Employee filing status
Gross wage in a given pay period
Number of allowances or extra withholding amount in their setup
If you're wondering what you should be entering in the Dependents claim, in dollars box and how to obtain that amount, you'll initially want to check with the IRS. You can find detailed information about processes like this on their website.
In the event you still have further questions about how to obtain an employee's withholding amount, I'd recommend working with a tax professional.
