If I delete a payment received amount in desktop version, will it only remove the payment or does it remove the record?

I accidentally applied a payment received to an open invoice from 2016. Can I delete the payment received from 2021?

If deposited, remove that entry first, then delete (remove) the receipt

it will only delete the entry, not the invoice it was applied to
