IIF Import Desktop 2019 - TimeLogix timeclock software

Hello,

Our office utilizes TimeLogix software for employee time tracking/timecards.

Per their instructions I have the set up using QuickBooks IIF.

I can export a file and import into QuickBooks under File/Utilities/Import/IIF files...

The first time I tried to import, all of the employees duplicated in QuickBooks.  I changed some setting in the TimeLogix software and the file imported with error.  See below.

It seems to be reading the First name as the middle name.  The timeclock software states that their software has to be set up exactly as the employee shows in QuickBooks.  I have the timeclock software set to show Last First Middle.

TimeLogix is looking at this as well but told me to reach out to QuickBooks.

Does any have experience working with TimeLogix and QuickBooks import?

Thank you in advance!

You can probably get it to work by bypassing the horrid new import code in QB 2019 and 2020.  It's riddled with bugs and is unnecessarily picky.

Using your case as an example, QB could just truncate the middle name as it always has FOR 25 YEARS.  But no. Now it's important to choke on the data instead.  For some reason only an Intuit engineer can comprehend.

I'll share some steps to fix the error, NWEC1.

Based on your screenshot, the error shows [ERROR] [Cheryl] MiddleName exceeds the maximum length of 5 characters [11304]. You'll want to correct this by opening the file.

Here's how:

  1. Go to File > Utilities > Import > IIF Files.
  2. Click the Import IIF button and open the folder where the new .IIF file is located. If you get an error File not imported, click the Review now button.
  3. Correct the errors and click SaveNote: If asked if you want to keep the file type, select Yes.
  4. Close the File not imported window and import the corrected .IIF file.

You can check this article for reference: Improved IIF Import in QuickBooks 2019 and later.

Please let me know if this helps you resolve the error. I'm just a few clicks away to help you some more. Take care.

Thank you for the information!  It does seem like the new import function is very buggy.  I have successfully imported one file and it seems to be correct.

Thank you for your input!
