Intuit Payroll on QBO and IRS tax liens

I have a client who was informed by the FTB to withhold earnings to pay back taxes.  Does Intuit Payroll on QBO do this?

Thanks for getting in touch with us today, @Cindy Wermers.

It's my priority to get this straightened out right away and make sure you're able to get the answer needed.

You can check the payroll compliance in California and make sure to properly set up your employee profiles to withhold the correct amount.

I've also attached an article you can use to stay up-to-date with state payroll tax regulations: Payroll Tax Compliance Links.

Let me know if you have other payroll questions. Just add a comment below. Have a good one!

I appreciate your quick response, but not quite what I was asking.  My fault.  I just want to know that payroll can do this and it will keep track of what needs to be taken out and paid.

I hear your sentiments, @Cindy Wermers.

I'd love to share some details about keeping track of payroll deductions.

Are you trying to include a wage garnishment in an employee's paycheck? If so, you can set it up inside QuickBooks Online. Please note that it will only track the paycheck but you can't pay through QBO Payroll. Thus, you can do it directly to the agency. If the state requires a specific item, I suggest reaching out to our Customer Support team.

To set up a wage garnishment:

  1. Select the Payroll menu, then click on Employees.
  2. Select employee's name.
  3. Click on edit ✎ beside Pay.
  4. To add a deduction, click on edit ✎.
  5. From the drop-down, choose Garnishment and Garnishment Type.
  6. Enter the description, amount requested, and the maximum percent of disposable income
  7. Once done, hit OK.

For more details, you can review this article: Setting up a wage garnishment.

I'm also adding this article to guide you with the list of payroll reports that you can access in QBOP: Run payroll reports.

You're always welcome to comment down below if you have other concerns with QuickBooks and payroll. I'm always ready to help. Stay safe.
