QuickBooks Online (QBO) separates time tracking access from specific vendor roles like 1099 tracking to maintain a clear distinction between these functionalities. If these vendors are marked to track 1099 payments, they cannot be assigned as time-tracking users. stlglass.

Vendors are set up in QBO to track expenses, payments, and purchases. When you designate a vendor as eligible for 1099 reporting, QuickBooks is programmed to treat them solely for payment purposes, not as workers for internal time tracking (typically used for payroll).

The time tracking feature is designed for employees or contractors who need to log hours billed against a project (for invoicing or payroll purposes). In contrast, 1099 vendors are primarily used for tracking payments, not time.

They can use timesheet so they can manually input their worked hours or add them as a user with a separate email address from the address assigned this role. Here's how.

- Go to the Gear icon and select Manager users.
- Click Add user.

- Enter personal information and enter another email address for this contractor.
- Select Track time only in the Assign roles section.
- Click Send invite.
