Michigan Unemployment

Hey there, @lizzyszymo

Thanks for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community. I hope your day is going great so far.

Based on other user experiences, to fix QuickBooks upload issues, first ensure your file is in the correct format (.qbo or .csv) and check that transactions don't exceed 12 digits.

If using the correct format and transactions don't exceed 12 digits, troubleshooting steps that typically resolve upload issues include clearing your browser cache/cookies. To do this:

After clearing your cache, please make sure you restart your browser so the changes can take effect.

I'm also including the Michigan site guide that includes the steps to upload below in case you need it:  Submit reports and payments

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. I'm happy to lend a hand anytime. Take care!

Michigan Unemployment

Even after contacting QBDT support, the short answer is no.  Following is a copy of my response on 4/23/2026 to this post https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/taxes/re-new-michigan-website-unemployment/01/1609...

I just concluded a call with QuickBooks Desktop support regarding the Michigan SUI filing issue. During the call, I walked the representative through the four file formats currently accepted by the State of Michigan’s new MiUI system and demonstrated that the text file generated by QBD does not meet any of those required formats.

Despite this, the representative stated that because Excel does not generate an error code during the macro process, she was unable to provide assistance. She further stated that there does not appear to be any update to QBD planned in the near future. The only workaround offered was manual data entry.

This response is unacceptable. Specifically:

  1. The cost of QBD and its payroll module has increased from approximately $300 per year to over $1,000 per year over the past decade. At that price point, it is reasonable—and expected—that Intuit remains fully compliant with federally and state‑mandated electronic payroll filing requirements.
  2. Whether Excel produces an error code is irrelevant. The macro is producing exactly what Intuit programmed it to produce. The problem is that the output file format is incorrect and noncompliant with Michigan’s published requirements. This is a defect in Intuit’s programming.
  3. Michigan’s changes to SUI electronic filing have been publicly known for at least a year, and the accepted file formats have been available for more than five months. Intuit had ample time to update the QBD payroll macro accordingly and failed to do so.
  4. Suggesting manual data entry as a solution is not reasonable or scalable. We manage unemployment filings for a large number of clients, and manual entry represents a significant, unnecessary administrative burden created solely by Intuit’s failure to maintain compliant software.
  5. Our QuickBooks Online clients do not appear to be experiencing this same issue, which indicates that Intuit has already developed a compliant solution for QBO but has neglected QBD users.

With the Michigan SUI filing deadline of April 27, 2026, this is now a time‑critical compliance issue. Please advise immediately whether Intuit intends to release a compliant solution for QuickBooks Desktop, or whether QBD payroll customers are expected to absorb the risk and labor cost of manual filing due to Intuit’s inaction.
