Missed manual Payroll - need Help

Hi

I just started payroll, and wanted to do it manually for the first couple of runs.  I've now set up auto, so everything should be smooth sailing!

Part A: I want to confirm whether or not taxes were paid on the active employees at that time (10/30/23 payroll), even though payroll was not run, and no checks have been issued for that date as of yet.

I don't know how to check the reports to confirm if taxes were paid.  I'm not so concerned about the employee getting paid (because there were two employees: one employee of my company is me and the other is my 16 year old daughter), I am more concerned if all my taxes were paid.  that's the whole reason i signed up for payroll elite.  I wanted QBO to take care of making the state and federal tax payments in a timely manner.

Part B:  I don't want to have myself as an employee anyway, so if it was not run on 10/31/2023 then I am happy to keep it that way.  I am now planning on turning myself and my daughter into a 1099 employee.

Part C: I feel as though it will be too complicated to reverse the previous payroll tax entries, any suggestions on how to do this? Who do I call for payroll support? There is NO contact information. and when i call quickbooks help desk i just get people who put me on hold to look up the answer and repeat my question.  I would like to speak to payroll support, how do i contact them? Aren't I paying extra for this support?

Missed manual Payroll - need Help

Thank you for using QuickBooks as your payroll tool, @asm212. I am happy to address your payroll concerns to ensure you get the most out of QuickBooks.

Taxes are calculated automatically with QuickBooks Payroll. As no paychecks were generated, no payroll taxes were paid. Not to worry, you can run Payroll details or any other payroll reports to verify this.

A 1099 is for non-employees whom you pay $600 or more in a given year. However, you'll need to add you and your daughter as contractors. Just keep in mind that Auto Payroll is not available for 1099 contractors.

Missed manual Payroll - need Help

is the only way to contact payroll through the chat? When I use the chat, i feel more knowledegable than the person on the other line.  I am sorry to say that I have spent more than 5 hours over the last two years resolving my own problem.  Honestly your chat and first line help is completely useless.  This was not always the case when I first started using quickbooks, 5 years ago.  I understand you are cutting costs, but please note that your customers are noticing.

I was hoping that if I am paying for payroll elite, I can speak to someone that won't be first line help desk.  Whats the point of being "elite".

My questions now are:

my federal quarterly deadline was missed, even though I have auto payroll on.  I will now accrue interest and penalties.  What is the point of being automated payroll if QB isn't automatically paying the taxes?!?

Also I have a CA employer account number.  does that mean I am registered as a foreign entity in california? My llc is formed in wyoming.

thanks

This is not the impression we want you to experience when contacting our payroll support agent and the missed federal quarterly deadline, asm212.

Aside from reaching out to our support agent through chat, we can request a callback or call them right away to assist with your payroll concerns. To help you with the missed filing, I'd suggest contacting our Payroll Support Team to help you with this one. They'll also investigate what's causing this odd behavior in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Go to Help (?).
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Enter your concern, then select Let's talk.
  5. Choose Get a callback from the next available expert.

To see the direct phone number, check out this article: Contact Payroll Support. For your California employer account number, if you're referring to the payroll tax account number for filing returns and making deposits in all electronic and paper filings, you get this when signing up for e-Services for Business. Once your business is registered with the EDD, you'll be given an eight-digit employer payroll tax account number, also known as a State Employer Identification Number, SEIN, or state ID number.

You may want to check these links to learn more about the process:

You can also contact your state agency directly to know what are the requirements and to get further assistance with the registration.

Please come back and keep us posted on your progress in processing your payroll forms and taxes. I'm determined to get this resolved. You have a good one.
