Buy nowI just logged into my Quickbooks and see that they will now be automatic filing/paying all of my taxes for me. The issue is, I do not have employees and with my business set up there are certain taxes that Quickbooks says I need to pay that I don't since I am exempt from them, but I can't turn them off. Not only that, I really prefer to pay things over EFTPS manually. I am at a loss. Is there really no way to avoid this auto payment and filing? This is an absolute deal breaker for me, is there ANY way possible to avoid this? If not, I will need to move to a new platform. Help!
Hi there, Charlotte. You can avoid QuickBooks automatic tax filing and payments by turning off the feature in your Payroll Settings, allowing you to resume manual EFTPS payments.
Please see the steps below on how to disable automatic taxes:
Please note that if your QuickBooks Online (QBO) Payroll account was created after November 15, 2025, the Automated Taxes and Forms feature cannot be disabled. This is now a mandatory requirement, ensuring that QuickBooks manages all payroll tax payments and filings on your behalf.
Since you are exempt from certain taxes, you need to update your payroll settings to a zero-rate to stop any automated payments by selecting the specific tax section you're having issues with.
Let us know in the commenst if you have additional questions.
I am currently doing manual tax payments, but my original question and sole issue is about the update on July 1st that will completely take this feature away.
Also, the zero rate feature doesn't work for certain taxes so no matter what they always show up in my Quickbooks. With manual payment I don't have to worry about this but now I will be forced to pay taxes I'm except from with the July 1st update. I will be finding a new payroll provider that isn't Quickbooks if this change goes into affect.
