Online Payroll - code to COGS account

I have just started QB Online payroll but I need to change the account to a COGS account - in the payroll settings it only gives me the option to code it to an expense account. How do I work around this?

Thank you

Online Payroll - code to COGS account

Welcome to QuickBooks Community, nicola_apap209.

I'm here to help you associate the COGS account to your Payroll Settings. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Payroll Settings.
  2. Under Preferences, select Accounting.
  3. In the Wage Expense Accounts section, click the drop-down arrow and select Cost of Good Sold account.
  4. Click OK.

You can now have the account type you wish on your Payroll Settings.

Here are articles you can check to get started with Payroll for your guide:

Please let me know how this works. I want to make sure this is taken care of.

Online Payroll - code to COGS account

I appreciate you getting back in the thread, @nicola_apap209.

The system automatically creates these default accounts in the payroll settings. Before changing your payroll account preferences, I'd suggest consulting your accountant first to ensure that these expenses are mapped under the correct account.

Additionally, I'd like to include this post answered by one of our Community Backers for your guide: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/employees-and-payroll/all-original-employees-filte....

Just like the wage account, you can also change the tax account under Tax Expense Accounts in the Accounting Preferences page. However, for the tax liability accounts, you can only change this to the available liability accounts on the Account List.

Let me refer you to the following article guides for more information about the setup.
