Payroll History

I just purchased 2022 Desktop Pro Plus and enhanced payroll.  I am needing to add in payroll history.  It says to go to employees, then setup, but there is no history button.  There are only two visible buttons, Employees and Finishing Up.

Thanks for joining the Community space, @kimmer88. I'm here to help you add your payroll history in QuickBooks.

You'll have to enter a historical paycheck to restore the missing payroll history button and its data. However, if you are trying to enter historical tax payments for the current year, you can use the Payroll Setup window.

To enter historical tax payments outside the Payroll Setup window, follow the steps below:

  1. At the top menu bar, click Help.
  2. Choose About QuickBooks. Press Ctrl + Alt + Y or Ctrl + Shift + Y to open the Setup YTD Amount window.
  3. Click Next and enter the Date of the Earliest QuickBooks payroll date.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Select Create Payment.
  6. Provide the information under Prior Payments of Taxes and Liabilities
  7. Click on Accounts Affected and select the appropriate option.
  8. Click OK.

For more details, see this article: Enter historical payroll data in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll.

Thanks for getting involved in this thread, RBlalock. I'd be more than willing to help you re-enter your historical payroll data into QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

With QuickBooks Desktop, we can manually enter historical payroll data for both employee paychecks and tax payments.

I'll guide you on how to re-enter historical payroll information in your QBDT account:

  1. On the Help menu, choose About QuickBooks.
  2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Y or Ctrl + Shift + Y to open the Setup YTD Amounts window.
  3. Press Next.
  4. Under When should YTD summaries affect accounts? section, manually enter the specific year/date period.
  5. Tap Next.
  6. In the Earliest QuickBooks payroll date section, enter the date you'll begin using QuickBooks payroll to create paychecks. Then, Next
  7. To enter a YTD summary for an employee, click the Enter Summary button after selecting the employee's name.
  8. Once done, click OK and tap Leave

I've added this article to help you run payroll reports: Create a payroll summary report in QuickBooks. This way, it allows you to view what you've paid out in your QuickBooks payroll.
