Join nowGood afternoon, donna49.
I'd love to show how to deactivate the sales tax so you can go about your business exactly how you want too. It's only a few quick and easy steps before your sales tax is turned off.
Here's how:
And that's it. From here, you should no longer be automatically charged sales tax. If you ever want to turn it back on, or edit any other taxes, check out this link, it breaks down the process and includes a helpful video.
I hope this information helps, if you need anything else, I'm just a few clicks away.
Thanks for your quick response. However, that is not working. We're receiving an error message that reads, "Sorry. We see you've collected sales tax on one or more items. This means you can't turn off sales tax."
Actually, I was not even able to follow your steps. Are those for Desktop or Online? We just recently switched to QBO and it's been a nightmare.
The steps shared by my colleague is for QuickBooks Online for Manual Sales Tax, donna49.
I'm here to provide some information about the Automated Sales Tax. If you've created a taxable transaction, we can no longer turn off the Automated Sales Tax option.
However, we can manually remove the taxes on the transactions. All you have to do is deselect the TAX column. Then, Save and close.
Afterward, we'll have to modify the Sales tax category of the product and services to Nontaxable. This way, the system will not collect any taxes from the items.
I'll show you how:
You'll have to do the same steps for the other items.
I'm just around if you still need my help!
I appreciate your work around but we have over 1000 employees. This will take us hours.
No. Were these instructions for QBO or Desktop because in QBO I did not fine "Related Tasks". Thanks.
Good morning, @donna49.
The instructions provided by my colleagues have been for QuickBooks Online. If you're not seeing Related Tasks, that means you're on the new Automated Sales Tax Center. The Related Tasks was part of the old Manual Sales Tax Center.
In the Automated Sales Tax, you don't need to enter the rates as this automatically tracks your tax. Here's a Community Article that provides more information: Set Up and Use Automated Sales Tax.
You can only turn off Sales Tax if you haven't collected Sales Tax on the Items. At this time, there isn't a way to switch back to the Manual Sales Tax once you're using an Automated Sales Tax. I'm going to submit feedback to our Product Development Team about bringing in a feature that will allow you to switch. In the meantime, here's how to turn off the Sales Tax:
Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. I'm always here to help. Best wishes.
