When I go to 'pay employees' and check off an active employee, open the paycheck detail and everything is blank in there. I can not edit any of the fields. Can anyone help?

QB Desktop Payroll problem

I appreciate you for the detailed information, @LA76.

Let's utilize the verify and rebuild tools in QuickBooks Desktop to fix a data issue with your company file, which is causing the behavior where you're unable to edit the fields in the paycheck detail.

The verify tool identifies the most common issues in a company file, and the rebuild tool fixes them. Please follow the steps below.

  1. Go to Window, then select Close All.
  2. Go to File, then choose Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data. If you see:
  • QuickBooks detected no problems with your data — your data is secure, so you don't need to do anything else.
  • If you see an error message – you can search on our QBDT support site to learn how to fix it.
  • If your data has lost integrity – damage to your data was found in the file and we have to rebuild your data.

Then, here's how to rebuild the data in your company file:

  1. Go to File, then select Utilities.
  2. Click on Rebuild Data.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions, then press OK.
  4. Select the place where you want your backup file to be saved, then tap OK.
  5. Enter a new name in the File name. Click Save.

Moreover, if you want to create custom reports for payroll, feel free to scan this article: Customize payroll and employee reports. To easily access your personalized reports, you can memorize these reports.

You're more than welcome to drop by if you have additional questions about managing your employees. Let me know and I'll lend a hand again.

QB Desktop Payroll problem

@LA76  I assume you mean that all the current fields are set to 0.00 except for their current wages.

If so, the only thing that comes to mind is whether you've been updating your payroll consistently. When you go too long without updating, Quickbooks will just stop calculating taxes altogether.
