QBO posting Billable time without link to payroll

he QB time tracking feature where employees have to toggle between projects and Internal is not working for us. We are trying to set it up where only the daily clock in / out integrates for payroll and all billable time to clients projects is excluded from payroll and is only used to track time in projects for invoicing. Does none have this problem can share your work around? Current if employees clock in and out for the day 8 hours, then log billable time 8 hours, when it submits to payroll I have to manually deduct the billable time from the total time worked. I don’t like doing this for several reasons but the most obvious is it may case a DOL audit issue. I have tried called QB online support, Qb time Support and Payroll support and all come back to the same conclusion of manually entering time for projects and then manually enter the internal time. We want to keep the gps tracking for mileage and expenses and when this time is adjusted or manual we lose the data. I am about ready to cancel QB time and payroll and use an outside provider. Then add employees to QB online as time tracking only to be able to add billable time to projects. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and wondering if QBO can customize this setting to work for us?
