Quarterly Payroll Schedule with 0 Hours Worked

I have a group of 5 employees who get paid quarterly only if there is a meeting held during that quarter. This past quarter they all had 0 hours. Quickbooks says their payroll is overdue but I have nothing to pay them for. How do I override this or get rid of the Overdue notice?

Quarterly Payroll Schedule with 0 Hours Worked

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community, germanytwp.

Let me provide details on how the Payroll Schedule works in QuickBooks Online. I've also got steps to ensure you can override the Overdue notice within the program.

Please know that when you set Scheduled Payroll, the system will put an overdue payroll notice to alert you that you are beyond the pay run. To remove this message, I recommend editing the payroll schedule of the employees.

Here's how:

  1. Choose the Payroll menu and choose Employees.
  2. Select your employee.
  3. Go to the Employment details section and select Start or Edit.
  4. From the Pay Schedule dropdown arrow, select the preferred pay schedule for the employee moving forward.
  5. Fill out the appropriate fields. Then, click Save.
  6. When you're done, select Save.

You can read this article to see further details: Set up and manage payroll schedules.

In case you need steps on how to run several payroll reports in QBO that you can use to view useful info about your business and employees: Run payroll reports.

Reach out to me again if you have additional questions or clarifications about managing payroll in QuickBooks. I'm always ready to respond to them, germanytwp. Have a great day!
