Quickbooks counting both gross and net pay as payroll expense - please help

I gave up on Quickbooks. I needed to get my 2022 taxes filed and couldn't wait any longer. I found a guy on Fiver that's a Quickbooks and Accounting wiz, and he took care of it in no time.

Can you add me to the list of affected users for INV-90151.  How are we supposed to file taxes?!?!?!?

Hi TGIAccount,

We want you to encounter a different experience than this.

Since Community is a public forum, we're unable to ask for your company details as requirements when adding an affected use of the ongoing investigation. With that, I suggest reaching out to our phone support so they can directly add your details. Here's how:

  1. Click the ? Help icon.
  2. Go to the Search tab.
  3. Click Contact Us.
  4. Select Ask about something else.
  5. You may type in INV-90151.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. Select either Chat with us or Schedule appointment.

Moreover, once the investigation is resolved, you can check this article as your guide about filing taxes: Pay and file payroll taxes and forms electronically.

We appreciate your patience while we're working to resolve the issue the soonest.

Do you happen to know how he fixed it or who it was? I'd love to contact them because QB assistance is of no use whatsoever after looking through this thread.

I have spent hours online with 2 reps and the manager and was advised that I was the only person to have raised this issue.

The PAYG tax from the gross payroll is on as liability in my cash run P& L report hence doubling this expense.

How can a P & L be accurate if it includes both the liability and the expense when you pay it.

It will take the back-end team a minute to change the cell that is linked to the report to make it accurate.

I have spent hours with two reps and a manager to try and solve this. And what was most frustrating was I was told I was the only person who had this problem. Clearly not!

My problem is the PAYG liability that is added to the cash P& L report as part of the gross payroll. Then it is doubled when you pay the liability and it becomes an expense 3 months later throwing out the reports.

Hi Lisa,

I understand you're having fundamental issues with your Profit and Loss report. This is not the kind of experience we want you to have. In QuickBooks Online once your payroll payment is downloaded in the For review tab, you'll have to allocate them to the Payroll Clearing account and not an expense account. For PAYG Withholding amount, you'll have to allocate them to your PAYGW Liability account.

I would recommend checking your payroll chart of accounts to determine the account where your payroll journals are exported to after finalising the payrun.

  1. Click on the Payroll Settings.
  2. Click on Chart of Accounts.
  3. Click on Default accounts.

You can also check this link to learn more about; Matching payroll payments in QuickBooks Online.

If the issue persist, I would recommend contacting back our Customer Care Team or feel free to reply to the email thread they have sent you for further checking your concern.

Post again in the Community if you have further concerns.

I did this and was booted out of chat three times.  Once, which screen sharing with customer support.  No resolution prior to getting booted out.  Can someone actually help with a resolution for this?

We do have everything correct your help team has confirmed this. What we have been advise dis that accurate P & L reports are a nice to have ( see below)

We do understand that having this feature would promote a better service for you. We really appreciate the idea and suggestion you have given. For now removing PAYG on the P&L alone without modifying the Pay Run is yet to be available in our system. That feature would definitely help our customers and contribute to the improvement of our product. Hence, we will surely forward this to our Product Development team. I may not be able to provide you a date on when this will be added. We usually have product updates almost every month and most of these updates come from our customers' feedback. Please be assured that we are looking into this and our engineers are seeing some ways on how can this be applied to the system without affecting other interface on the system.

Hello, consider GROSS WAGES (debit) as an expense, and NET WAGES, taxes, and others as liabilities (credit); then in the -payroll settings - accounting - edit-, under wage expenses: choose wages as a liability, i.e. change the account that shows in there for 'payroll liabilities'. After that you can update from what date you want start the correction, don’t write nothing on -end date-.

After two days of thinking how to fix it finally I did it. What I did solve the problem for me! Good luck.

Has the problem been resolved yet? I am talking about the investigation, INV-90151.

Maybe it's time to switch to this NetSuite or something I keep hearing about.
