Hello, @mkhesin. Thanks for bringing your GPS history issue to our attention. This is concerning, especially when you rely on accurate data for your operations. I'm here to help you resolve this.
GPS data is derived from a combination of satellites, Wi-Fi, and cellular signals. Several factors can impact its accuracy, including the device's technical capabilities, weather conditions, and atmospheric interference. This complexity can lead to challenges in obtaining accurate GPS points or understanding why your location is incorrect or missing.
Since your employees' locations are showing inaccurately, here are some possible reasons:
- The device is in power-saving mode, airplane mode, or any low battery setting.
- The app was force closed (the app should remain open in the background while you are clocked in).
- Background data restrictions are enabled (Android), or background app refresh is turned off (iOS).
- You’re signed out of the app, not clocked in, or on break.
- The app or the device operating system is outdated.
- The device is turned off, or the battery has died.
- You’re in an area with satellite interference.
- The device is overheated or damaged.
- You’re clocked in using a computer or kiosk.
- A timesheet was manually created (or edited) by your admin or manager.
- To determine if any of this has occurred, log in to the web dashboard, navigate to Time Entries, find your timesheet, and view the Timesheet Log. If someone else created or edited the timesheet, GPS points won't be displayed.
To resolve the problem, let's troubleshoot your employees' devices. Before proceeding, ensure that you're set up correctly and have the latest app version.
For iOS or iPhone
- Turn the device off and back on.
- Navigate to Settings, choose Privacy & Security, then Location Services.
- Ensure Location Services is turned on.
- Toggle it off and back on to refresh.
- Locate and select Workforce in the list and set Allow Location Access to Always.
- Enable Precise Location.
- To reset all wireless radios, head to Settings, and turn on Airplane Mode, then turn it off again.
- To disable battery saver settings or apps, go to Settings, then Battery.
- Make sure Low Power Mode is turned off.
- Check that any battery-saving apps don't restrict permissions for the Workforce app.
For Android
- Turn the device off and back on.
- Navigate to Settings, Apps, and choose QuickBooks Workforce, then Permissions.
- Select Location, Allow all the time, and then Use precise location.
- Turn off any battery-saving settings for the Workforce app or any other battery-saving apps you have.
