How can I run a Time by Employee Name report thats sums time spent by that employee per class and then taken as a percentage of total time worked across all classes?

It’s great to see you in the Community, mbenford-gsul-or.

I’ll guide you on how to run a report that will show all the data you need.

Let’s open the Time Activities by Employee Detail and export it to Excel. From there, sum up the time spent by the employee per class. Then, take the total time worked (percentage) across all classes.

Here’s how:

  1. Tap the Reports menu on the left panel and enter Time Activities by Employee Detail in the search field.
  2. On the Time Activities by Employee Detail Report page, click the Time Activity Date drop-down and set the correct period.
  3. Select Employee from the Group by drop-down and then hit the Customize button.time report.png
  4. This will open the Customize report screen.
  5. From there, press the Filter link and tick the boxes for Class and Employee.
  6. Make sure to choose All to display all classes and workers’ names.
  7. Click Run report.
  8. Hit the Export icon drop-down to select Export to Excel.time report.1.png
  9. Open the spreadsheet and manually customize the data.

I’m adding an article that lists all payroll reports available in QBO. It includes instructions on how to customize a report, prints it, or customize one: Run payroll reports.

Feel free to leave a comment below if you have other concerns or questions. I’ll get back to answer them for you. Wishing your business continued success.

Hello,

thank you for the response. I am still unable to summarize the hours an employee has worked on a certain class. For instance, I would like to see all hours an employee worked on "Class A" and summarize them. I'd then like to see the same for "Class B"

Welcome and thank you for posting here in the Community, @LGSU

It's my pleasure to help you run reports for the number of hours the employee worked in QuickBooks Online.

You can run the Payroll Details report for this. The total hours will be shown at the bottom part of the report. You can select the employee's name at the top to show their summary.

Here's how:

  1. Click Reports on the left pane.
  2. Enter Payroll Details in the Go to report search box.
  3. Set the date range at the top.
  4. Select the employee's name, and click Run Report.

Let me share the Customize reports in the QuickBooks Online guide for additional resources. It displays complete instructions about refining the data shown on a report as well as a video for visual reference.

Additionally, the following report contains a list of reports to help see sales performance, business spending, profitability, and balances by class: Run reports by class. I can see how having the class column to show on payroll reports is important to your business.

We always value the customer's ideas and suggestions. This is something I can submit as a feature request on your behalf for consideration in future updates. To stay up to date with the most recent features of QuickBooks, I invite you to visit this page: QuickBooks Blog.

I also need this exact report for my non-profit's 990. I'm using QB Premier Nonprofit 2021 Desktop though and neither of the reports mentioned here are available to me.

Hello, OperationsCWC.

Thank you for reaching us here in the Community. QuickBooks Desktop offers more than 100 standard reports that can be customized as needed. You can run either Payroll Summary or Workers Comp Summary. This report shows the same information as mention above.

Also, you'll want to know the different reports available in QuickBooks, please check out this article: Understand reports
