I need to run my first payroll tomorrow and add my previous payroll information later. Is this possible?

My accountant is having health issues and said she couldn't do my payroll anymore and I have to pay my employees tomorrow and it says that I have to have all the years previous info in first. Is there a way around this?

I need to run my first payroll tomorrow and add my previous payroll information later. Is this possible?

Hello there, @socketsbarandgri.

Thanks for visiting the Community today. Let me explain the process for entering previous payroll information in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Yes, you can run your first payroll tomorrow without entering the prior payroll information yet. However, the option to add your employees' previous payroll information by yourself will no longer be available if you've already run your first payroll. Thus, you'll have to reach out to our Payroll Support Team so they can record the prior payroll on your behalf.

If you still want to proceed to run your payroll first without entering your employees' prior payroll information, you can follow these steps to set it up in QBO:

  1. Gather the following info:
         - Your next paycheck date (or the date you'd like to start paying your team in QuickBooks)
         - The physical address where all or most of your employees work
         - The payroll contact name, email address, and phone number. This is the main person responsible for                  paying your team, which may be you.
  2. Then, open QuickBooks Online.
  3. Go to the Payroll menu, then select Overview.
  4. Select Get started.

  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to fill in the info requested.

Then, follow the steps outlined in this article to complete your payroll setup tasks: Get started with QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Once everything's been set up, you can simply follow the steps from this article to successfully run your first payroll in QBO: Process or run payroll.

Additionally, I've included an article that'll help you view useful information about your business and employees. This ensures you're able to get a closer look at your business's finances: Run Payroll Reports.

I'd love to get updates on how this goes. You're always welcome to add a comment below if you have any other questions about running payroll in QBO. Have a great day!
