We are a church in PA churches are exempt from paying UC tax

Let me welcome you first to the Community, jgirven.

To make sure we’re on the same page, are you trying to set up the church as tax-exempt for UC PA? While waiting for your reply, let me provide some information payroll tax exemptions.

In QBO, excluding the company from paying unemployment tax is unavailable at this time. I know this is a company paid tax, however, the process requires to set each employee not to withhold the UC PA.

The steps have never been easier, and I’m here to help. Let’s open the worker’s profile to perform this task.

  1. Tap the Payroll menu to select Employees.
  2. This will display the list of all workers added to the company.
  3. From there, click on the employee’s name you’re working on to view more details.
  4. Press the Pencil icon for Pay to open the Edit employee details page.
  5. Go to What are employee’s withholdings? section and click the Pencil icon to see the Employee's Withholding Allowance Certificate information.

  6. Fill in all the field boxes and make sure to enter the correct address.

  7. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit the Tax exemptions link to mark the box for PA SUI.

  8. Click Done to save the changes.

For additional information, the following articles outline the instructions on how to switch a non-exempt worker to tax-exempt and vice versa. From there, you’ll find some helpful links about Form W-4: Employee filing status and exemption status of foreign workers.

Keep me posted in the comment section below if you have any clarifications. I’ll jump right back into answer them for you. Have a great rest of the day.
