Reclassifying historical payroll transaction

The mapping mask is correct but the payroll does not post to the correct wage and bank account.  I have tried everything in the help screens including turning off the system wide use of account numbers.  Unfortunately, the test process did not remap the historical transactions and worse re-posted the cash side to a dead operating account.  This cause me to have to re-reconcile numerous payroll transactions to correct my beginning balance in Cash reconciliation.

Anyone else have this issue?  Is there a solution?  Quick Books "support" is not helpful -  they did agree to put something in comment for the call about the lack of resolution.  I asked him to put a ticket through to development but apparently they have no escalation path to address software malfunctions.

Regards,

Cara

Reclassifying historical payroll transaction

We aim for a better experience for you, @Cara, and I want to inform you that no similar cases have been reported in the QuickBooks Community.

The way payroll transactions are posted depends on how they are added and mapped in Payroll Settings. Don't worry, we can still update the Accounting Preferences for past transactions to correct their posting accounts. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Payroll Settings.
  2. Click the Accounting pencil icon.
  3. Under Accounting Preferences, correct the posting sections for wages.
  4. Select Done, then click another Done to close Payroll Settings.

Please note that this updates all accounts except the Bank Account section. To address this, you can create journal entries. For accuracy, consider consulting your accountant for guidance.

You can also generate payroll reports in QuickBooks to gain insights into your business's finances and useful information about your business and employees.

Feel free to ask if you have more questions about reclassifying historical payroll transactions. I'm here to assist anytime.
