Recording Payroll after moving to JustWorks using their QuickBooks Online integration

We recently moved to JustWorks for payroll and vendor payments.  They now have a  QuickBooks Online integration feature that allows you to map your JustWorks pay type to the Quickbooks accounts.  Has anyone used it and does it work well?  It requires you to map all the pay types in JustWorks to a Quickbooks account and I don't have all the pay types in Quickbooks (nor do we use them) so does that mean I have to create them in Quickbooks anyway since the integration won't work without all the mappings being matched?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Recording Payroll after moving to JustWorks using their QuickBooks Online integration

It's good to see you here, @Ymtsenglee. Let me provide some insights and steps on how to map JustWorks pay type to the QuickBooks Online account.

To get started, select Connect to QuickBooks Online under Accounting integrations at the top of the Invoices page. You’ll be prompted to sign in to your QuickBooks Online account, which allows you to map pay types in Justworks to your Chart of Accounts in QuickBooks Online. After, you'll also be able to send invoices from Justworks over to QuickBooks.

Next, you’ll need to create a mapping for your bank account. The Bank account mapping should be mapped to the bank you have linked to Justworks.

Here's how you can create bank accounts in your Chart of Accounts:

  1. Select the Settings ⚙ menu and choose Chart of Accounts.

  2. Click New to create a new account.
  3. In the Account Type ▼ dropdown, select an account type.
  4. In the Detail Type, choose the detail type that best fits the transactions you want to track.
  5. Give your new account a name.
  6. Add a description.
  7. When you're done, click Save and Close.

Now that you’ve set up your bank account mapping, you’ll need to map each pay type in Justworks to an account from your Chart of Accounts in QuickBooks Online.

Keep in mind that you’ll have to link every pay type to an account to complete setting up your integration. Also, you can link multiple Justworks pay types to the same QuickBooks Online Account from your Chart of Accounts.

In case you have further issues mapping the pay types, I suggest contacting Justworks supports. They are also experts who can provide additional details about the setup.

Moreover, I'm adding this resource to guide you on how to process and run payroll in QuickBooks.

I'm just a post away if you have other payroll concerns with QuickBooks. I'll be happy to lend a helping hand. Have a nice day.

Thanks for the reply.  So from what you said, can I map salary, bonus and commission all to the salary field in QBO since we don't have a special designation for commission and bonus in QBO?  And once this mapping is done and we are able to get the data over to QBO, do we need to still do a general entry to account for the amounts that each staff got paid as that is what we've been doing before?

Thank you for the prompt reply, @Ymtsenglee. Allow me to provide further clarification on this matter of syncing Justworks to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

You won't need to manually create journal entries once you have Justworks synced with your QBO company. For the mapping part of this process, I believe it's best to speak to Justworks Technical Support for further assistance.

Refer to this page: Justworks. It contains Justworks Technical Support contact information, as well as a FAQ section at the bottom of the page.

Don't hesitate to leave a comment below if you have other questions about this process. I'll be around to help you out. Enjoy the rest of the day!
