Since QBO does not handle local tax filings, how do I get a W-2 for downloading in EFW2 format so I can independently upload it to the local tax processing site?

Three years later and we're still struggling with this issue. I was able to get it done mostly using this method. Felt like a code creator. I did find that entering the city wages where the school wages were didn't pull over and give me the amount on the tester. I had to figure that one out but trial and error got it done. Thank you for sharing this! Hopefully intuit will have locals ready for the 2025 w2 season.

This has been a question in the community since at least 2021.  My local city taxes have to be uploaded in EFW2 format if more than 10 W-2s.  QB reply is always (since 2021) been to submit feedback rather than addressing the issue.  QB is letting down the users who made them successful in the first place.

So how is everyone submitting their Files to RITA?  I for one do not have the time or knowledge to be able to creat the EFW2 file.

Can you share the spreadsheet you used?

Thank you for this extra info. I have not tried yet this year to produce this for RITA. I'm sure this will come in handy when I start again.

However, even QBDT does not produce the EFW2 for local filings. Still an arduous task!

Go to your W2REPORT and make a copy of it. Below is what I did. ## are personal numbers.

RS39R0703SSN######Firstname                        Lastname                                  Adress      City            OHzipcode

0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000     Ohio####                  3900000######0000000####0000######0C00000######000000#####

                Wage^                 ^OH WH     ^Wage & “C”                             ^RITA WH

                                                                In place of the “E

Characters between the C and the end is 22

Characters before the C are 34

You must put the wages and withholding to fit

In those spaces. Don’t use decimals but do put

Zeros where the cents would be.

This person grossed 8640.00. Withheld state 96.00 and withheld Rita 194.56. I believe Intuit is removing those numbers for this post for some reason.

Run it through the RITA tester app to be sure the wages and withholding match your books.

It is now February of 2025. This thread is five years old. QB has still not provided a way for it's customers to obtain a downloadable EFW2 file from the platform.
