When in review before transfer to Turbo Tax, Quickbooks picks up the total miles instead of the business miles. How do I change them?

Hello there, Workman.

I will share some insights about how QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) picks up mileage data for tax purposes.

When you review and transfer your data from QBSE to Turbo Tax for tax filings, the data on the mileage report you can download will show the Total miles entered in the program, regardless of whether it's for personal or business purposes. However, you don't have to worry about this, as QuickBooks will only calculate taxes based on the Total business mile deductions for Vehicle expenses and not the total miles recorded on that tax period.

For more details about mileage deductions, you can visit this article: Learn how QuickBooks Self-Employed calculates mileage deductions.

However, if you only want to show your business miles on the report, you can remove or delete the personal miles within the program. This way, the Total miles will be equivalent to the Total Business Miles. Here's how:

  1. Go to Miles, then click the Personal tab.
  2. Select all personal miles recorded, then click the Delete icon.
  3. Click Apply, then select Yes to continue.

Furthermore, here's the link and video tutorial on how you can manage your tax info once you're ready to file your taxes:

I hope this information has been helpful to you. Please don't hesitate to comment below if you have any other concerns or follow-up inquiries about managing your mileage and filing taxes. I'm here to help you out! Take care always.
