Buy nowHi pondgnome,
Let's resolve why the wages are lumped into either Service or New Construction account.
It's possible that the payroll expenses or the classes are mapped into the mentioned account. Here's how to verify:
Once done, let's reopen the Profit and Loss by Class report. Then, check to see if it's showing the correct accounts.
If the payroll expense and classes are entered correctly, yet, the same issue persists, I recommend reaching out to our payroll experts so we can investigate it. You can do so by clicking the ? Help icon.
Moreover, if you want the system to run payroll automatically, QuickBooks can do that for you. Here's an article on how you can set it up: Set up and manage your Auto Payroll in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Thank you so much for answering my question. Nothing has changed in my set-up; I double-checked. Things were working just fine before; however, I do have the Classes being mapped into either New Construction or Service & Maintenance. Should I eliminate that? I want to be able to track the classes on their timesheets so that I can run a P&L report on each type of service (Class), and it will include wages. This was working just fine for months and months, and now it has stopped working. The guys work different Class jobs on different days, so I can't just map each employee to one specific Class.
Thanks for following my colleague's recommendation to check the classes or mapping of your account, pondgame. I see that you want to solve this issue as soon as possible. Let me help route you to the best support who can investigate this matter and provide the appropriate fix so you can get working.
Since there are no changes that were made to your set-up, there's no need to remove the classes that are currently mapped.
I recommend you reaching out to our Support Team. They have the necessary tools and resources to check and resolve the issue you are facing. They will be able to access your account information and ensure the security and privacy of your information. Here's how:
I've added this link for more details: QuickBooks Online Support.
Here are some other reports that you can run showing your classes: Run reports by class.
After customizing the report, here's how to save it to run the same report in the future: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Yes, this was all verified. However, this mapping is overriding the classes that I put on the timesheets, from which payroll is run. The field employees do different classes of jobs on different days, and we need to track the profitability of these classes. I did contact QBO, spoke with the general department, the timesheet department, and the payroll department. No one was able to help, beyond suggesting that I upgrade our plan from CORE to a more expensive plan. Very frustrating. If I can't get the actual profitability of each class of work, then Classes are fairly worthless.
I've discovered this issue as well, pondgnome. I was hoping you had a solution when I Googled my problem, but it looks like it wasn't resolved for you either.
Nope, no solution. A friend of mine, who is very experienced in QBO, recommended using a payroll service. That doesn't seem like it would solve the issue... Anyway, I'm still working on it, maybe running a couple of different reports and creating my own Excel document with all the information that I need. It's a real pain, but whadda ya gonna do?
