I updated the number in the Manage Vehicle Tab but it still says Total Mileage must be less than Business Mileage.  Which it is not

Why won't it update my total miles and send to Turbo Tax

Hello Liorye.

I can see the urgency of keeping track of your total miles in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE). Allow me to provide you with some insights about how the mileage calculation works in QBSE.

QBSE uses the standard mileage method to estimate your tax deductions. To calculate the deduction, QBSE multiplies your total business miles by the current rate per mile set by the IRS. However, there are things that we need to consider especially if the system would give us an error message or it would not allow us to proceed with our transactions. In the meantime, I suggest using a private window, which doesn't store temporary files.

Sometimes, QuickBooks can have browser issues due to poor configuration. Browsers use cache and cookies to load web pages faster on subsequent visits, but this can occasionally result in unexpected behavior that impacts the views and performance of QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To open an incognito window, you can use the following keyboard shortcuts:

  • Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge: Press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: Press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari: Press Command + Shift + N

If it works, you can clear Intuit-specific cookies. This helps to refresh website preferences that may be causing problems when using QBO. Also, I suggest utilizing other supported browsers. This will help us identify if the issue is specific to your current browser.

If you continue to experience the same result, I suggest contacting our technical support team for further assistance. Since they have the necessary tools to securely look into this issue and provide you with the best resolution possible.

If you prefer to manually track your mileage in QBSE, you may find this article helpful: Manually track mileage in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Additionally, if you ever need to export your mileage information from QBSE, you can find more information in this article: Export mileage info from QuickBooks Self-Employed.

If you have any further questions or concerns about how mileage calculation works in QBSE don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be more than happy to help you!
