Workers Compensation Insurance for California

Our company is considering Next Insurance as the new carrier for our WCI. We came upon this information within Quickbooks Online but would like to know if anyone else has purchased insurance from this carrier and how has been the experience so far.

They also market the fact that it is a pay-as-you-go arrangement. Not sure if that's actually better than the quarterly/annual payment.

Would like to know your thoughts!

Workers Compensation Insurance for California

Hello, user57.

Thanks for your interest in using Next Insurance as your new carrier for your workers’ compensation insurance. I'll gladly share more in-depth information about it below.

Workers’ compensation insurance protects you in case an accident happens. It'll cover your medical bills, lost wages, and legal expenses. To find out more if you need it, how to get it, and how to manage workers’ comp automatically with Pay As You Go, please see this article: Understand workers’ compensation insurance.

Furthermore, Intuit Insurance Services Inc. (IISI) partnered with Next Insurance to make this happen. IISI is owned and operated by Intuit Inc., the maker of QuickBooks, and receives compensation from Next Insurance (California License No. OH27264).

Pay As You Go is integrated into QuickBooks Online Payroll (QBOP). It helps automate workers’ compensation premiums so you never miss a deadline. The exact premium cost of your policy is calculated based on your actual payroll data. That amount is automatically withdrawn from your bank account and sent directly to your insurance provider.

If you wish to get a quote, sign up, or check the requirements, please see this page: Workers’ Compensation Insurance Information.

Additionally, you can run, print, and customize payroll reports to get a closer look at your business finances, employees, and taxes in QBOP. To do these processes, you may want to check out this article for your reference: Run payroll reports.

Please let me know if these anything else you need or questions about workers' compensation insurance in QBOP. I'm always ready to help. Take care, user57.

@user57

I have not personally used Next but thought I should chime in.  I owned multiple small businesses for almost 20 years and was required by my state to carry worker's comp.  A couple of things to consider:

1) Insurance companies are great at giving an attractive introductory rate, only to make up for it with rate increases in subsequent years.  There's no way to know if that's going to happen so just be aware.

2) If calling an 800# or using online chat are the only two options to contact the company, I would be very cautious of using them.  Or, at the very least, understand that you do not have a local agent that you can call that will go to bat for you in order to get what you need.  There is nothing more frustrating than having to sit on hold to talk to someone that doesn't know you or your business and having to re-explain your concern on each subsequent call.  A local agent knows you and your business and relies on you for their income and, therefore, tends to serve you better.  Just my $.02.

Thank you for your input. Unfortunately, we already experienced the first point you have mentioned; with such a large premium adjustment billed to the company, it's almost funny. This is actually why we are looking for new carriers that best suit our needs.

I also understand the customer support perspective and it is something we are considering as well. Thanks again!
