Wrong computer used for QB payroll...

I access my client's computer remotely and do QB payroll.  My client recently changed computers, and I ended up accessing the old computer (thought it was the new one) and did payroll; they've since done other QB transactions on the new computer, so I can't restore the QB file from the old computer on the new as it will wipe out the new transactions the client has done.

Is there a way to manually recreate the previous payroll on the new computer without re-paying the employees and ensuring all YTD payroll information is correct on the payroll documents?

Wrong computer used for QB payroll...

Hello there, @rjlmccann.

I'll share some information to transfer files from the old computer to the new one.

The easiest way is to create and restore a backup company file. It saves your data and supporting files. You can also simply copy and paste your entire QuickBooks folder to a new location. Ready your product and license number and install QuickBooks Desktop on the brand-new device. Here’s how:

  1. Download your version of QuickBooks Desktop. Save the file in a location where you can easily find it.
  2. Open the downloaded file (QuickBooks.exe) and follow the onscreen instructions.
  3. Accept the software license agreement, then tap Next.
  4. Enter the Product and License numbers and click Next.
  5. Pick Express install.
  6. Activate and update QuickBooks Desktop.

Check out these articles for the detailed steps: Install QuickBooks and Move your company files to another computer.

Once done, you can now move the backup company file. Follow the steps to restore it on the new computer. I’m adding this resource for your reference: Restore the backup.

Let me know how this goes for you! I'll be here for further assistance if it's needed. Best wishes.
