Buy now & saveI am an Alabama company with Alabama-based employees. Last October, I had an employee quit and move out of state. When I updated his mailing address for his final paycheck, my QuickBooks now shows I owe a return for SC. We have never worked in SC. I updated the employee's address back to AL, and it still shows. When I try to click to file the return and mark as zero, it takes me to a page that says I need to configure taxes for SC. When I click that, I get a page cannot be found error. It's an endless cycle. No,w even though that employee shows terminated as of October last year, it still shows a past due return for SC for the last quarter of last year, and now it is showing one for the first quarter of this year. I currently have only one employee who resides in AL. My setup shows the correct location address, company address, state for AL for withholding and that is what is being withheld. How do I get rid of this state that is lingering in my QuickBooks and get it to show the correct filing state in the filing section?
Hi there, accounting288.
Thanks for turning to the Community for support. I want to make sure the correct state shows for filing taxes in QuickBooks Online.
Since you mentioned the filing request for South Carolina still shows even after changing the employee's address back, I recommend clearing the browser cache as an initial troubleshooting step. The cache is in place to collect frequently used data to make loading web pages quicker and easier. If it becomes too full it can cause certain viewing and performance errors within the system, such as the changes you made not updating. Clearing it will resolve anything that is preventing the QuickBooks pages to not load correctly. Here's how to get this done in Chrome for example:
1. At the top right, click More (three vertical dots).
2. Click More tools and then Clear browsing data.
3. At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.
4. Check the boxes next to "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files."
5. Click Clear data.

Please give this a try and let me know how things look afterward. I'll be here to help if you need me.
Thank you so much for your response. I gave it a try and cleared the cache but I am still seeing the SC return fiing due and it does NOT show the filing due for Alabama although on the taxes due screen, that is all that shows. Its just on the filing screen that SC shows.
