Thanks for sharing this Greg! It worked for me! I tried to follow the previous instructions given by accessing the temp file and changing the sharing settings. By clicking the properties of the QB file itself upon download, I also changed the compatibility mode to Windows 2008 which is the weirdest thing I could ever expect from Intuit! Intuit should actually fix the compatibility mode because the latest one they have as an option is for Windows 8. I am using Windows 11 like most people.
THIS is the correct answer. Just unzip it and then install from the folder created. Why did an end user have to come up with the correct answer instead of tech support? If it hadn't been for T1cs01 posting the solution here I doubt I would have been able to re-install Quickbooks without a painful gyration with tech support on the phone. Not to mention, it's 2023, how about making software that can extract to large drives that most PCs have these days??
I also had this problem with QB Desktop 2023 on Win 10 machine. I can't believe the answer is as simple as extracting the QBSetup .exe, then run the extracted Setup.exe file (I used winrar to extract, not winzip7). I spent 1.5 hours with a level 1 tech to no avail. Got escalated to level 2, but I told tech I don't have time to sit around. And as some earlier posters noted, it is unfathomable that a user had to clarify this after 4 years!!.
If found this in one of the threads from an actual QB rep:
Retry? I was never given instructions to extract the downloaded setup .exe in the first place! And Level 1 today had no idea! Maybe QB should be providing a .zip instead of a self-extracting .exe since it's pretty obvious the "self-extracting" part is goofed up!
SIMPLE SOLUTION.
I used the QuickBooks Tool Hub which was already downloaded.
There are a list of topics in the left column. I selected "Installation Issues"
Then I ran the "QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool"
I restarted my computer.
I downloaded it again. And it worked perfectly.
Do you have an updated link for this issue? I'm having this problem with Desktop Pro 2023 and have plenty of room on drive C and meet all system requirements.

The fix is in the first page of this thread, about two-thirds of the way down. I was having the same problem, and was actually told by Quickbooks support that my 113 gb wasn't enough space to run the installer. Did the 7-zip extract and everything installed just fine. I am continually amazed at how bad Quickbooks, and Quickbooks support is. I have to find a suitable replacement (which shouldn't be too difficult, given the problems with QB).
Thank you, thank you! You provided the best "unlimited expertise" for the problem. This is the simplest fix, using the QB Tool Hub (which the QB Techs should have known in the first place). It worked perfectly!
Sorry, my response should have gone under gm232, using the QB Tool Hub.
SO MANY THANKS to t1cs01 for the original post and to all the people who posted that the solution worked for them: "None of these suggestions worked for me. I was able to extract the files from the QuickBooksPro2019.exe file using 7-Zip, then successfully ran the Setup.exe file from the extracted files."
It worked for me, too!
After getting robot lady and learning that I'd need to call back during business hours, I searched for solutions on the web and voila! You all saved me what could have been many hours on the telephone with incompetent tech support. Sometimes it's good to be a night owl {O O}
So found others with issue out there and turns out, some issue within the self extractor file won't extract the information. Go to the file assuming you have 7ZIP installed, right click, select 7ZIP and extract files, then go to folder and run setup, then install works that way.
This worked like a champ for me, thanks for posting.
