Join nowdoes anyone know -- is the Connect to Paypal app the same as the connection used for bank feeds? I had understood that these were different.
Also...does anyone know...is it possible to download Paypal transactions as Sales Receipts, rather than as deposits? I've a small nonprofit and need to manually create a Sales Receipt for each donation (this is how we track the amount given by each donor), and we have an aggressive fundraising season ahead.
Thanks in advance
Are you using QBO or QB Desktop? You will need a 3rd party tool to import data as Sales Receipt.
Yes, the Connect to Paypal app is the same as the connection used for bank feeds, @FPCNS.
Also, the conversion of downloaded deposits into sales receipts is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). However, we can record the sales receipt and match it to your downloaded deposits. To create a sales receipt, follow the steps indicated below:
After completing the creation of a sales receipt, we can match your downloaded deposits to your newly created sales receipt.
Additionally, you can read this article about automatically categorizing downloaded transactions in QBO: Set up bank rules to categorize online banking transactions in QuickBooks Online.

I'm using QBO. Does that require a 3rd party tool for importing PP as sales receipts?
Thanks, I know all of those steps -- I did about a dozen sales receipts today. I had read a spec for the app that seemed to indicate that the app could download PP transactions as sales receipts using a rule -- i must have read the spec incorrectly.
Basic question was, is the Connect to PayPal app "the same as" the bank feed or does it have some additional functionality? After install, it appears to be exactly the same (since the bank feed is working fine, I'll probably just delete the app, unless I can determine that it has other functionality).
Establishing a direct connection with PayPal, we can retrieve any transactions that affect your balance in PayPal and display them in the banking tab of your QuickBooks account, @suds1. Let me shed some light about the QuickBooks and PayPal integration.
This feature allows you to see all the details of your transactions, including line-level information such as items sold, discounts, shipping, and tax, where available. Additionally, when we add a transaction from PayPal, the system will automatically record the PayPal fees for you. We can choose an expense account where these fees will be tracked separately, saving you the effort of entering them manually.
On the other hand, if you need to use another application we suggest a third-party application and look for an app in the QuickBooks Online App Center. To find an app in the QuickBooks Online App Center that can handle sales receipt transactions to sync in QuickBooks Online from PayPal.
You can follow these steps:
In addition, it allows you to conveniently edit, categorize, and match these transactions to ensure that your books are accurate and up to date.
If you need more information about PayPal app integrations, you can add your comment again in this thread. I will be right here to guide you.
You can prepare Sales Receipt data with the following template
RefNumber | Customer | TxnDate | ShipDate | ShipMethodName | TrackingNum | Location | Class | BankAccount | PaymentMethod | PaymentRefNumber | BillAddrLine1 | BillAddrLine2 | BillAddrLine3 | BillAddrLine4 | BillAddrCity | BillAddrState | BillAddrPostalCode | BillAddrCountry | ShipAddrLine1 | ShipAddrLine2 | ShipAddrLine3 | ShipAddrLine4 | ShipAddrCity | ShipAddrState | ShipAddrPostalCode | ShipAddrCountry | PrivateNote | Msg | Currency | ExchangeRate | BillEmail | ToBePrinted | ToBeEmailed | ShipAmt | ShipItem | TipAmt | DiscountAmt | DiscountRate | TaxRate | TaxAmt | DiscountTaxable | LineServiceDate | LineItem | LineDesc | LineQty | LineUnitPrice | LineAmount | LineClass | LineTaxable |
