Yes, you can safely delete those update cache, @mjguils25.

Those are just temporary files when downloading the updates. A temporary folder used as a holding area for QuickBooks file components when installing an update.

If you have other questions, I'm happy to answer it for you. Just post it here as a reply and I'll take a look at it. Have a good one.

Are there any other folders that are safe to delete in the Components folder?

For example, can I delete the SPatch folder after the update has been installed?

For that matter, can I delete the entire DownloadQBxx folder?

Thank you for your help.

Good morning, @TCRick

Thanks for joining in on this thread. I can share some information on what folders you can delete.

We advise not to delete any folder that deals with the company file. However, if it's an old installer folder, then you can go ahead and remove it without any issues.

I recommend just reviewing the folder before deleting to ensure of the information etc.

I hope this helps you understand what folders you're able to delete from QuickBooks Desktop. Feel free to reach back out if you have any other concerns. Take care!

We can find the QBUpdater file in the QuickBooks installation directory on your computer, Mary53.

The location of the qbupdater.exe file (which is part of QuickBooks for updates) depends on your software version and where it is installed. Here's how you can locate it:

  1. Open File Explorer (Windows + E).
  2. Go to the installation directory ( C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks <Year>).
  3. Look for a file named qbupdater.exe.

We can also find it using Windows search by following the steps below:

  1. Open the Start menu and enter qbupdater.exe into the search bar.
  2. If the file is on your computer, it should appear in the search results.
  3. Right-click the file and select 'Open file location' to view its directory.

If you can't locate the file, we can enable the viewing of hidden items. Just go to File Explorer and click on the View tab. Then, check the box for Hidden Items.
