Greetings:
I'm a treasurer for a homeowners association and we have had an outside accountant keep track of our associations books.
We have decided to take the books back into the association and I will be doing them. Our accountant had the desktop version and used the backup function to create the backup file and sent that to me. I subscribed to QuickBooks Online and found out quickly that I cannot open the backup file directly into QuickBooks Online.
Following community and other support, I downloaded the trial desktop version and was able to open the backup file. The instructions for exporting to online requires me to go to company and select the option to export your company files to QuickBooks online, however, this option isn't shown in the menu list. I updated the desktop trial then reset updates and updated again but the option to export still doesn't show.
Any help is appreciated...thanks in advance...John

Hello there, @beachfarmer.
I'll help you export your company files from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO), so you can manage your data accordingly.
Yes, @BigRedConsulting is correct that the Export Company File to QuickBooks Online option is available using QBDT Pro and Premier. Since you have the QBDT Enterprise (trial) version, you'll have to press Ctrl + 1 to open the Product Information window to start exporting. For the detailed steps, here's how:
Once you're done, the next step you need to do is to make sure your data is ready to go. For the step-by-step guide on what you should do after moving to QBO, please refer to this article: What to do after you move from QuickBooks Desktop for Windows or Mac to QuickBooks Online.
Also, I've included some of our helpful articles if you need a reference to guide you in getting started and using QBO to run your business:
That should get you going, @beachfarmer. If you have other exporting concerns or questions about managing your company data with QuickBooks, I'm always ready to help. Take care, and have a great day.
Yea, Enterprise doesn't seem to have that option. Only Pro and Premier have it.
Sign in as an admin to the desktop company file you want to move.
On your keyboard, press Ctrl + 1 to open the Product Information window.
Press Ctrl + B + Q, then select OK to display the export window.
On the export window, select Get started.
Sign in as an admin to your QuickBooks Online company.

Select Choose online company, then select the QuickBooks Online company you want to replace with your company file.
Select Continue.
If you track inventory in QuickBooks Desktop:
Select Yes to bring them over, then specify the as of date.
Select No if you want to set up new items later in QuickBooks Online.
Enter “Agree” in the text field, then select Replace.
Select Yes, go ahead and replace the data, then select Replace.
Keep in mind, you won't be able to migrate some types of data (e.g attachments, estimates, purchase orders, jobs, sales reps, custom fields). You may consider to purchase a 3rd party conversion service to do so.
