How to manually insert the business mileage in order to start the export process from Quickbooks Self-Employed to TurboTax?

When I try to start the Tax filing process, QBSE does not bring the correct business miles and it considers the total mileage as business miles.

How to manually insert the business mileage in order to start the export process from Quickbooks Self-Employed to TurboTax?

Hi there. I'll provide insights regarding mileage from QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) exported to TurboTax.

QBSE uses the standard mileage deduction method to calculate mileage. When filing taxes, TurboTax can help you choose the most suitable method. After categorizing your vehicle expenses, you can see the specific expenses and your mileage. Note that the total will appear in the vehicle expenses category in the financial reports, allowing you to use either deduction method. However, vehicle expenses such as tickets, fines, and principal auto loans are not deductible.

In your case, once you have submitted your data from QBSE to TurboTax, you cannot submit additional data as it is a one-time entry. Therefore, if you need to add missing trips and additional mileage, you should do so directly in TurboTax to avoid duplicates. After adding the additional mileage in TurboTax, properly categorize all trips as either business-related or for personal use. Here are the steps to add additional mileage in TurboTax:

  1. In the Search box, Type Schedule C.
  2. Click the Jump to link.
  3. Put Yes to Did you have any self-employment income or expenses? then answer the questions until you get the Select any expense categories you have on screen.
  4. Select Continue after clicking your expenses. If you've already worked in this section, select Edit or Review next to your business.
  5. Next to an expense type that you had, select Start or Edit.
  6. Enter your expense description and amount, then fill in the necessary information.
  7. Choose Add another row if you had more than one expense to include them all.
  8. Select Add expenses for this work for the additional expenses of other types and repeat steps 4 through 6 to add more.
